De acordo com a Sociedade Brasileira de Endocrinologia e Metabologia, em 2010, o Brasil contava com
18 milhões de pessoas consideradas obesas. Esse número alarmante não é uma exclusividade do nosso país. A obesidade é um problema mundial de saúde pública. Qual a melhor forma de erradicar essa doença? Com informação. Por isso, preparei esse texto explicando sobre as causas, os sintomas e os tratamentos possíveis.
O que é a obesidade?
É o acúmulo excessivo de gordura corporal em uma pessoa. Para evidenciar quando uma pessoa estava obesa, foi criado o Índice de Massa Corpórea (IMC). Atualmente, é a principal forma de diagnosticar a patologia. O IMC é uma tabela de referência internacional criada para mensurar se uma pessoa tem sobrepeso ou se está obesa. A partir da divisão do peso pela altura elevada ao quadrado, é obtido o IMC do indivíduo, que se enquadra em uma das faixas de referência abaixo:
- Menos do que 18,5, está abaixo do peso;
- Entre 18,5 e 24,9, o peso é normal;
- Se entre 25 e 29,9, há um sobrepeso;
- Entre 30 e 34,9, está com obesidade grau 1;
- Entre 35 e 39,9, é o grau 2;
- Mais do que 40, é o grau 3.
Quais são os sintomas?
A doença não provoca sintomas, de forma direta, no paciente. O que ocorre são o aparecimento de transtornos em função do excesso de peso. O paciente está mais suscetível ao contágio por fungos e bactérias e podem sofrer artrose em função da sobrecarga de peso. Porém, essa patologia é considerada grave em razão da predisposição que o paciente passa a ter para outros problemas graves, como por exemplo, hipertensão, dislipidemia, doenças cardiovasculares, diabetes tipo 2, apneia do sono, infertilidade e até câncer.
Quais são as causas da obesidade?
O principal agente causador do excesso de gordura corporal é o estilo de vida prejudicial. Geralmente, pessoas que não desenvolvem bons hábitos possuem uma saúde fragilizada. No caso dos pacientes obesos, a má alimentação e a compulsão pela ingestão de alimentos. A alimentação excessiva associada ao sedentarismo provoca o acúmulo de gordura. A genética do paciente também pode ser a responsável pelo desenvolvimento da doença, assim como os fatores psicológicos.
Como é o seu tratamento?
Alguns casos de obesidade podem ser tratados com medicações associadas à mudança de estilo de vida e
harmonização da microbiota intestinal. As medicações variam de acordo com cada paciente. Nos casos mais graves, o tratamento é realizado por meio da cirurgia bariátrica. Independente da alternativa escolhida, o sucesso do tratamento depende da reeducação alimentar do paciente. O indivíduo precisa ter a consciência da forma como se alimenta, evitar os hipercalóricos e as bebidas açucaradas. Porém, não é uma tarefa fácil e exige um acompanhamento psicológico. A mudança de hábitos passa pela reeducação alimentar, mas precisa ir além. O paciente precisa iniciar a prática de atividades físicas, para combater o sedentarismo. Caso não seja suficiente, a última alternativa de tratamento é a cirurgia bariátrica. Porém, apesar de ser um procedimento seguro e eficaz, só é recomendado quando o paciente esgotou todas as outras possibilidades. Para estar apto à cirurgia, o primeiro requisito é ter o IMC maior ou igual a 40 ou maior ou igual a 35, se possuir comorbidades. Posteriormente, o candidato será avaliado para que se verifique sua aptidão física e psicológica. O procedimento varia conforme a técnica, mas, consiste em reduzir o tamanho do estômago e desviar o caminho do intestino. Agora você já está bem informado sobre o assunto. Caso suspeite de que pode se enquadrar no IMC que indica obesidade, procure um médico para ser avaliado.
